Being 5

So 5 happened last week.  And even after the big day, Sophia didn’t believe that she was really 5.  Apparently, the party makes it all official, and she waited till then – several days later – to declare her new age!  I took these photos on her birthday, messy hair and a pretty dress.  I love that it’s simply her, the way I see her every day, smiling and serious and silly and sweet.

I was feeling a little sad about my baby growing up (too fast), and a lovely friend (thank you Rachel) told me that she sees her own children growing up like she’s finally meeting the child they are going to be.  I love that!  I feel so incredibly fortunate to have been able to spend each day with her since she was born, and there’s nothing that compares to it.  I still pinch myself that we created her.  And that I get to be her mummy.  I can see myself looking back on these magical days in years to come, and feeling so very blessed for having them.  I do wish it could slow down.  But the journey is all kinds of amazing.

Thank you for being such a joy, my darling Sophia.  Happy birthday, Miss 5!
