Today my little girl started primary school. She woke up and raced into my room to wake me for cuddles, and we watched the sun rise out the window. She went up to the glass for a closer look, and told me how pretty all the orange clouds were in the sky. We lay in bed for a few mins, and she said she would miss me. I said I’d miss her too, so much.
She couldn’t wait to get dressed! We put on her uniform, and I did her hair with big bows, as requested. She looked gorgeous and so happy. I can’t believe my baby has grown up this fast. I took these photos before it was time to leave.
The short trip to school seemed even shorter than usual, and we jumped out of the car into the morning heat. 30 degrees at 9am, and a cloudy day for the start of the prep year. Sophia approached her new school full of confidence! I’m so very lucky I have never had to worry about her when it comes to leaving her – she has never cried at any daycare or preschool drop off. Today was no exception. It was my own tears I had to worry about this time! But her excitement was infectious and she gave me butterflies. We were early, and I took some more shots at school in the garden.
And then Sophia’s friend Amie arrived. I have known Amie’s mummy since we were pregnant with the girls. They attended the same preschool and are now in the same prep class – and very pleased about that! They are the best of friends, and it’s been absolutely wonderful to see them grow up together.
The girls raced into the classroom and were quite eager for us to leave! Somehow I managed to fight back tears in that moment of walking away. I left a piece of my heart behind. But I couldn’t be more proud to be her mummy, and I’m excited for everything she’ll learn, and the friends she’ll meet, and the person she’s becoming. It’s the most amazing thing in the world.
Happy first day, my darling Sophia!
